Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 4:00AM It's Movie Shout Out Sunday time!
Yesterday's question was:
What is your favorite hair-brained scheme in a film?
Check out the responses below:
A bit dark, but Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007) comes to mind.

definitely firing torpedos down a small shaft at the end of the trench on the first Death Star! If not that, dressing as stormtroopers+taking chewbacca to the jail of the same. And the epitome of successful schemes would have to be that of keyser soze in The Usual Suspects (1995).

There's many I love. The scenarios in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Fargo (1996), and Shallow Grave (1994) but the top of the list would have to be Three Kings (1999). Not necessarily a "harebrained scheme" per say but if you don't account for non-combatants, Iraqi torture techniques, and Clooney's conscience, not the best idea ever.

Sanjuro Kuwabatake's scheme in Kurosawa's Yojimbo (1961) is AWSOME and pays off so hard in the conclution!

Fargo (1996) for me, by a long shot. Does anyone else still feel guilty about laughing at a leg and foot being shoved into a wood chipper? Oh, yah, you betcha.

Probably The Sting (1973), that movie is just one big scheme.

Some Like It Hot (1959)...pick any of Tony Curtis's schemes and run w/ them...be sure to pack your leg shaving kit or your Cary Grant accent...this movie goes from one hare brained scenario to the next like a crazy pinball machine tottering around on 3 inch heels (Jack Lemmon has great legs; Marilyn Monroe has great everything else.)

The con from the beginning of Matchstick Men (2003). That was epic!

This one was tough for me. There are so many. But I finally have decided on the original That Darn Cat! (1965). Yes, it's a GREAT idea for the FBI to follow a CAT to solve a kidnapping and bank robbery. :) Love that flick.

Gotta love the run for the border in Born in East LA (1987). If you just throw enough people at the border patrol, eventually they just give up and let you through. Who knew?

the original Ocean's 11 - deano and the gang sneaking out all the stolen dough in a coffin, which of course gets creamated right before their eyes...fabulous.
Friggen rad!
Amongst being a great classic caper film, it's just the height of cool! A really funny flick too. You really got the impression they all just got together and said "hey, lets make a movie."
"What's so funny?"
"I knew this color would come in handy one day..."
Classic.
