Aw MAN! My favorite anime, bar none (not even akira... well, except for animation quality.)
I wish you guys would have gotten a bit more into this one though. Agreed that the motivations are a bit simplistic even if they go further than most, but I would have liked to hear more of your thoughts on 'em anyhow; this movie plays really well with certain basic human truths which the political world (which this movie is basically about) still always seems to miss. This movie is a germ of sensible thought in the sea of an unfairly simplistic medium. I only wish it went further.
Check out ergo proxy, for some more self-confident anime (stuff is SO rare.) Becomes slightly reminiscent of mulholland drive-type controlled chaos, which I love.
Whoa. Don't tempt us!
We shot almost an hour of us talking LOL, but at the end of the day we kinda felt like we were taking too much away from people's first viewing of the flick. The story is so nuanced that it's REALLY easy to give away MAJOR plot points.
We hear you though. It's fargging fantastic!
I'll check out Ergo Proxy! Thanks for the suggestion!
I had never seen an anime flick before and only gave this a chance because I've liked all the other movies you've recommended so far. I was pleasantly surprised. While I don't think that anime will become a favorite genre I now have an appreciation for it that I didn't have before. Keep up the great work! I look forward to your new recommendation/review every week.
Thanks Yvonne!
We like pushing the envelope every now and then. Our first anime review was a tough one to arrive at. We didn't want to go to far out there with a 'Vampire Hunter D' or a 'Ninja Scroll', but we ultimately felt the message of balance in Mononoke elevated the film above many in the Anime catalog.
the maxx! you have a Maxx!!
also, you guys have great taste. I've grown to trust your judgement. thanks to you both for this series of videos
Hey Arla!
You're the FIRST person to know what that was! Someone, who shall remain nameless, once asked if it was an "Action Grimace"... Ugh...
If I had a prize to give you, I would give you that prize!
