Movie Shout Outs - Movie from a TV Show - Responses

It's Movie Shout Out Sunday Time!

Yesterday's question was:

What is your favorite film made from a TV show?

Your responses were awesome! You guys thought of a lot we hadn't thought of! Check them out below.

The Fugitive
Rich via MYMHM Comment

Most films based on TV shows are dreadful, but aside from Star Trek, I'd have to say this year's State of Play was impressive.
@alexlyons via Twitter

Land of the Lost...just kidding. Probably the Batman Saga.
Nickie B. via Facebook

I'm gonna have to say Star Trek. To think that this one show that only lasted 3 seasons has spawned several more shows and almost a dozen movies is pretty amazing. Do I have to pick just one? Since the first movie was kind of meh, I'll go with the second, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.
Yvonne via MYMHM comment

Serenity.....I'm a browncoat I can't help it.
@GeekStuffOG via Twitter

Were there any good ones?? Maybe...
Starsky and Hutch. Probably... Oh, no... Wait... The Avengers. Ralph Finnes and Sean Connery (and a bit part for one of the best comedians in the world, Eddie Izzard) FTW!
Daniel C. via Facebook

The Addams Family.
@KamillyC via Twitter

Serenity of course.
Brian T via Facebook

Power Rangers :P and definitely all the Star Trek Films.Actually, my all time favorite tv to film is the Muppets.
@hidama via Twitter

Serenity, 3 of the Trek series and i have an irrational fondness for Addams Family Values.
Tom M via Facebook

The original Transformers. So epic. Cha'mon...Orson Welles was even in it!
@DarrenH via Twitter

I must prepare myself for my own ridicule as I admit my favorites are Jetsons the Movie and Transformers the Movie.
Brandon J. via Facebook

That's a surprisingly good question. Off the top of my head I'm gonna have to say THE SIMPSONS MOVIE but I need to think about it. If only FAMILY TIES was made in to a movie...Also, does the Saved By The Bell made for TV movie when Zack and Kelly get married in Hawaii count? If it does, I choose that.
@axisofphilippe

I've got a few favorites... Serenity, ATHFCMFFT, The Fugitive, Get Smart!, MST3K: The Movie, Reno 911!: Miami, Strange Brew and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.
Adam B. via Facebook.

It has to be Serenity for me, Firefly is easily one of my favorite TV shows, such a shame it got canned so early.
@nikmortimer via Twitter

Gotta be The Fugitive, right?
Michael B. via Facebook

I'm drawing a blank on the favourite film from a TV series, but Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the best TV from a film! And hands down,The Hitcher is my favourite film made from another film...it's from...wait for it...2001: a Space Odyssey(no kidding!)
@SJ Edwards via Twitter

SO my answers, cause I can't narrow this down, but Serenity (which seems like the obvious group answer.) Masters of the Universe (Frank Langella FTW) The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse (which you MAY have missed) any Python film, and just for shits and giggles, Maverick! biotches.
Michael F. via Facebook.

I loved State of Play the mini-series and thought the film was a great adaptation and even a great update with the discussion of "old media" versus "new media." The other film I loved was Charlie's Angels. I saw it after finishing a stressful week of finals in college. It was the perfect popcorn flick. It didn't take itself too seriously AND Sam Rockwell is in it!

I actually though the Simpsons movie was excellent, and used the longer format well without overstaying its welcome.
Lee from MYMHM

Well, jeez guys, you took all my serious picks (Fugitive, Star Trek, Batman, Serenity), so which wacky flick will I pick. Hmmmm ... Wayne's World? Naked Gun? Nope I'm going to go with The Blues Brothers. It's easily one of the best wacky comedy small screen to big screen translations ever!

A lot of great answers, but I really like hidama's answer. Muppets Take Manhattan is one of my favorites. I didn't even think of the Muppets when I saw the question.

There were SO MANY movies I didn't think of, like Maverick (another great flick). I kept thinking of all the REALLY bad translations like Car 54 Where Are You....

Oh, I know. The bad ones kept going through my head too... Bewitched, Brady Bunch, Sponge Bob. One that I thought of, but didn't fall into the "favorite" category was Dragnet. While based on the TV show, it was more of a parody which is why I liked it. It had some funny moments, which of course the TV show rarely had (not on purpose anyway).

LOL, Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd could be put in the worst movie ever, and I'd still probably like it...

Just thought of another good one that no one else mentioned... Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Loved the TV show, loved the movie. Am I the only one that thinks of stuff the next day?

The Blues Brothers suggestion is brilliant! Other than Serenity, it's the only thing on this page worth repeat viewing.

September 27, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSpazsquatch

LOL.
Thanks Spaz. I don't think it's the ONLY movie worth repeat viewing...
