18 - We Challenge You to Watch 'The Five Obstructions'
Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 7:58AM In a move that I'm sure will shock many of our viewers after our review of 'Breaking the Waves', we've decided to go back to the well of Lars Von Trier for 'The Five Obstructions'
This is also our most contentious episode yet, while we both enjoyed the movie, we very much disagreed on Lars' role in the film.

Lars von Trier is Danish, not German.
Who said he was German? I can't find that...
Probably referring to my all purpose silly-pretentious-bastard voice, which does admittedly sound quite German.
Wow. I really liked this movie. I mean, really liked it. Everything about it. Yes, von Trier is an egotistical, pretentious bastard, but he carries it so well. I think it was easy to enjoy because it's obvious that Leth is enjoying it. He is, in no way, a victim here. Though he grumbles a bit, I think he really gets off on the challenge of it all, and trying to outsmart/outart von Trier. At first, Leth seemed very gracious, almost too much so, towards von Trier and his maniacal requests, but after a while I got the feeling that Leth was just giving von Trier a little slack, as you do with the eccentric. The technical bits were interesting, too, though I have no background in film making. I liked getting that peek.
Thanks for reviewing it! It's the best film I have seen in a long time.
Fact Fail: People from Denmark speak Danish. People from The Netherlands speak Dutch.
Hey Anon...
Noooo... I'm pretty sure a danish is a tasty pastry... I'm pretty sure I read that in a book somewhere...
Thanks for the comment!
