81 - This Thanksgiving We're Thankful for Lars Von Trier
Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 9:54PM Yup.
At the end of our review of 'The Five Obstructions' we half-jokingly put a one year moratorium on Von Trier films. We didn't know at the time if we would even still be doing the show (in a way weaseling out of even needing to re-visit this auteur).
In a way, coming back to review another Von Trier film is a testament to our little review webseries.
The fact that this review lines up with Thanksgiving is just a cruel irony...

Great review of Dogville guys! (and mighty nice suspenders Juan) Saw this one quite a while ago and remember being mesmerized it. I agree that von Trier is some sort of geni-ass. But before you completely write him off as a downer, you need to see a comedy of his--yes I said comedy. Check out The Boss of it All. Knowing you, you'll probably manage to extract some darkness out of it but I guarantee, you'll laugh too.
You guys sure seem to love those dark European moralists, between Haneke and Trier. I bet you fall asleep to Bergman every night. The sound of a woman's fragile psyche being shattered is like a tender lullaby, it's true. Come to think of it, I actually recommended you guys two films that focus on a woman's psyche being shattered - but only one of the two was fragile. Just thinking about it... I'm getting a bit sleepy... Petra... Petra...
EXCELLENT review you guys. Thanks for the shout out. Didn't expect you to cover this film for Thanksgiving 2010, but hey, that's what keeps us viewers on our toes. Absolutely.
Nice review of one of my favourites!
I checked out your other reviews on LvT-movies and I am subsequently going to watch the five obstructions and breaking the waves!
P.S: Just because everybody does it wrong, you don't have to, too. Here is a link on how to pronounce the nobility preposition: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/von (check the audio)
Another excellent Trier review from the boys at MYMHM: spot-on! As you probably won't recall, I've been ragging on you two to review more of Lars' work with each review - you finally got to my request for Dogville, now that yet another year has [almost] passed Trier-free, may I again request that you review "Dancer In The Dark"? I won't repost my own original review, since you can simply look it up here, but since you guys have been right with me on each Lars film so far, I suspect that you will LOVE this three-ish hour excersize in dull-bladed-vital-organ-removal-cum-Broadway-musical :-)
Please? One more Lars von Trier?
Dancer In The Dark. Do It!!! Do It Now! You will NOT be disappointed ;-)

Alright Nonaht.
I'll make you a deal.
On the one year anniversary of THIS review, we'll cover Dancer.
Cool?
I think one LVT film a year is MORE than generous...
