44 - If You Don't Watch This Week's Episode, You're In 'Big Trouble'!
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 8:01AM But NOT in Little China...
I mean COME ON! Who DOESN'T love Dave Barry? That's what I thought, NOBODY! So, why wouldn't you watch a movie adaptation of his 1999 comedy crime classic?
When you consider it's directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and has an incredible 'Get Shorty'-ish cast, you kind of owe it to yourself to check out this often overlooked gem.

And of course, a special MYMHM Shout Out of Honor to friend and fan of the show Bryan Hoerber, who protects his tweets on twitter, or I'd tell you to follow him. He does however run a blog that you can harrass him at KI6ILS.com!

Tim Allen -- GALAXY QUEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Janeane Garafolo (sp?) is also good in The Matchmaker, we double feature that with The Truth About Cats and Dogs (and Mystery Men -- you don't like Mystery Men?).
Not even halfway through and I'm sold. I just need to get Gayle back in movie watching mode.
LOL!
I KNOW! It gets me into trouble ALL the time. I LOVE the cast, the story is such a GREAT idea, but something about how silly the execution is (and utterly wasting Eddie Izzard) just kinda turns me off about Mystery Men...
I also gotta give it up to Tim Allen's role in Red Belt. Surprisingly awesome performance, even as a minor character.
Tim Allen is actually the reason Red Belt ended up on my radar -- I was on a Tim Allen kick. My brother gave me so much grief for saying that because that's not "why you see Mamet films". Totally excellent movie and yes, he was awesome.
Not a big Mystery Men fan either -- I seem to be mildy allergic to Ben Stiller in certain combinations/types of roles. Nearly every movie wastes Eddie izzard, except of course, All The Queen's Men, which I need to watch again sometime.
Hey, a brazilian reader/watcher here! As a cinema lover I really enjoy knowing what you think about these movies and beeing able to know new "movies that i may have missed". i was wondering, have you ever heard of "Pola X" and "Dellamorte Dellamore"?, these are really good, strange and often, lets say, kind of unrated movies around the US.
Hey Daphne!
I LOVE Dellamorte Dellamore!!! I hope to cover it on the show soon!
Such a random zombie flick, with such a dee-lish existential bend to it. Rupert Everett is fantastic in it too!
If you like that, you might also like They Came Back (AKA Les Reventants)? A really odd French Zombie flick.
I haven't seen Pola X. Let me see if I can dig up a copy.
Thanks!
It's awesome to know that somebody has already seen this movie, please put it on the show!
i'm already searching for They Came Back, never heard of it.
By the way, just to make myself more comprehensible, Pola X has nothing to do with Dellamorte dellamore besides the fact they are really good and not very known movies.
Actually, I think Pola X has something in common with Lars' Breaking The waves (I really enjoyed the show about it), but in a more mature and/or excentric way =P
