60 - Get You Motor Running, Head Out on the "Two-Lane Blacktop"

Whew.

Episode 60.

That's a whole bunch... Like TENS of episodes...

And to celebrate we're reviewing a fan request! Dubbed the best driving movie of all time by friend and fan (and voice over performer extrodinaire) Miles Neff. Miles was so motivated to share this film with me that he drove a copy og the Critereon edition DVD over to my production studio to MAKE me watch the film.

It''s a good thing we liked it...

Direct episode download (160MB)

Super special shout out and thank you to Mr. Miles Neff for sharing this movie with us, and I promise I WILL get that DVD back to you... at some point... probably soon... ish...

Hi Guys,

I love your show, both for the movies you present and the way you present them.

Another thing I love about your show, especially before I found out that Juan was a recording engineer, is the quality of the sound.

.. until you bought that zoom h4n.

The appeal is obvious, and generally speaking the quality is quite exceptional, especially for the price. When you were only using it for three-person setups it was easy to understand that proximity with a centred voice and two side voices was an issue that the zoom nicely solved (though try watching an episode with headphones) .. but still, overall, the quality was distinctly lower.

..and above all, the most important aspect here, and the only reason I'm writing anything at all, is that until now, your show served as a rather good advertisement for your sound recording abilities. A well selected microphone with correct placement and the whole thing was slick and professional and easy to watch.

Please feel free to delete this comment as soon as you've read it - It's certainly not my intention to draw general attention to this, and .. hell, maybe I'm the only one who even has a problem, so feel free to ignore me as well. :)

.. and thanks for making such a great show - I'm surprised Netflix (or Miramax) isn't sponsoring you yet ...

Yeah this ep got boned.
The biggest problem wasn't the Zoom, it was the recording software taking a stereo signal and converting it to mono NOT by summing it, but by keeping the left channel only. As we have full time jobs AND we have to do ALL of our own production (while being "the talent") we don't have much of a safety net, and these mistakes will pop up from time to time. Live and learn.

Guys:

I really enjoyed the review. You made some excellent points that I had never considered before.

I saw James Taylor on Letterman a few years ago, and he was (if you can imagine such behavior from James Taylor) kind of bragging about the fact that he did all his own driving in the movie. As well he should-that car was crazy. Few people know that it was the same car that Harrison Ford drove in "American Grafitti" a couple of years later.

This film is like an old friend to me. I was very happy to share it with you, and I'm glad that you appreciate how unique it is.

Alright....I gotta go change the jets.

Miles
