67 - Talking About 'Renaissance' with Our Pal Darren

You might not know Darren, but he's been a tremendous supporter of MYMHM, having suggested many films (even evangelizing Battle Royale which we reviewed last week).

When he suggested reviewing a CG animated, Blade Runner style noir, featuring the voice talents of Daniel Craig, we thought "Why not have him on to chat with us". Then we thought "I could really go for a cheese burger...", but then after that we were back to thinking about the movie again.

Renaissance actually came out first in French and was (rather quickly) re-dubbed in English with surprisingly well-known actors. In fact, it may have even been released in both languages simultaneously, I'm not sure. But there's definitely a French version out there.

Should have waited until the end of the episode to post! I've got some insight into its poor US showing, too. It's anecdotal, but I think it helps.

The film did some weird tour in 2006. They scheduled a showing at my college in the fall of that year, then failed to show up without explanation. How does that happen? I'm not sure if this poorly-run tour was the entirety of the film's US release (which seems unlikely) or some kind of hair-brained last-ditch money effort, but maybe it provides a little insight into the film's American box office woes.
