125: Random Drama Double Feature - 'The Girl in the Cafe' & 'Blackthorn'

Okay, so we admit it.  Neither of these films really has anything to do with the other (other than they both qualify as 'Dramas'), but they were both so terrific, we just had to cover them.

Bill Nighy and Kelly Macdonald teach us about the world (by being adorable!) in 'The Girl in the Cafe,' and we learn what MIGHT have happened to Butch Cassidy in 'Blackthorn.'

I haven't seen Blackthorn but I can attest that the "Girl in the Cafe" is one high quality film. I like the fact how Gina confronts the authorities in pursuit of what she thinks is right.

Hey thanks for bringing up The girl in the cafe, I will check it out.
To add on the review: the writer, "Curtis was better-known as a writer of romantic comedy films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Love Actually (the latter of which he also directed and had featured Nighy)." -Wikipedia

And... guys... I haven't heard you comment on Blackthorn's Eduardo Noriega's work in Tesis by Alejandro Amenabar?! Eduardo Noriega, later played in Abre los ojos (Open your eyes), with Penelope Cruz, by the same Alejandro Amenabar (The others, with Nicole Kidman or Mar adentro/The sea inside, winner of the 2004 Oscar for best foreign film). Cruize loved Abre los ojos so much that he bought the rights and produced Vanilla sky for himself and The Others for his wife.

By the way, I don't know if you've reviewed them yet, but a double feature on Alejandro Amenabar's Tesis/Abre los ojos would be fantastic ;)
Keep up the good work, you guys rock!
Cheers from France
Cyril
