107 - British Coming of Age! "Starter for 10" and "Cashback"
Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 10:21PM It's time to grow up!
Literally.
Both films this week are about watching young British men start to figure out what it means to be aduts.
At the same time, these films also help us add to our woefully under-represented list of romantic films.
So sit back, relax, and let's chat some film!

Very cool show. I will try and find these. They both sound awesome. Was kinda funny you mentioned 'Last Action Hero' and reviewed a movie with Charles Dance in it. His character was the only reason I watched that movie over again. Thanks so much guys! You still rock even though there is a crowbars dif between us. lol ;)
I think you missed something in Cashback. You complain about them introducing the person in the hoodie who can move through time (position 10:20) like the main character and never go back to it. I think the point was to show us that others can exist in his frozen world to help us accept the ending when he brings his girlfriend into it.
Sorry for the spoiler?
Hey MGB!
That is completely accurate, but wasn't something I wanted to disclose in the episode as that's kind of a spoiler. My gripe with the way it's introduced is that we never return to the actual hoodie guy, or see ANYONE ELSE that has this ability, and the way that moment is executed in the film is a distracting diversion of tone from the rest of the more romantic and whimsical nature of the film at large.
LOL! No worries on the spoiler. I think our comments should be safe to chat. :-D
hi....how about discussing indian movies in ur show??
Okay, totally coming to this conversation late, but I have seen Starter For 10 a few times and only now, listening to your show did I realize Patrick is Benedict Cumberpatch! Holy Crap! How did I miss that? He plays the total broom stick up the butt part so incredibly well, I didn't realize it was the same guy from "Amazing Grace", "Cambridge Spies", and now, of course, "Sherlock".
I'm surprised Starter For 10 didn't do a little better simply because all the little Austen-ites would have recognized James McAvoy from "Becoming Jane". Between Jane, Narnia, and ShakespeaRetold, I wanted to see more of McAvoy's work and thus stumbled upon Starter for 10 (and since many British films star the same 25 actors, I ended up recognizing half the cast in the movie).
