42 - 'Pontypool' Will Make You Eat Your Words!

So after reviewing Word Wars last week, we totally had words on the brain. What better to follow up a documentary on Scrabble than to jump in to a FREAKING WEIRD movie about word zombies?

Canadians come up with the oddest zombie flicks, so sit back and watch what you say, the "virus" is spread through understanding...

Special thanks to fans Dale Lloyd and @Alexlyons for recommending this flick!

     ***UPDATE***

Our review caught the attention of Mr. Tony Burgess (the writer of Pontypool Changes Everything and the screenplay for the Pontypool film), and here's what he had to say about us!

best review of Pontypool I have heard yet.  The difficulty in `getting it', `liking it', even recommending it is supposed to be the pleasure. Especially the question over whether everything works or nothing works and the choices you have to make as a viewer to determine one over the other. It's a pleasure i look for when i hunt a specific kind of film and it was definitely something I thought while writing 'er.

so thanks for the awesome review. I don't normally pop in doctor thru a window style on reviewers but this was so good.

    ciao T

Woot! He likes us! He REALLY likes us!

    ***UPDATE NUMBER TWO***

41 - The Best Anagram I Could Come up With for "Sword Raw" is 'Word Wars'

    It's Documentary time!

Continuing our tradition of documentaries featuring people doing mundane things (like playing Donkey Kong) EXCEPTIONALLY well, we're proud to present 'Word Wars'!

This 2004 docu-drama about tournament Scrabble players got no attention outside of festivals, but is now READILY available to stream online, which is pretty exciting for these low budget gems.

Anyone got a good anagram for "dubious award"?

40 - The Best Movie of 2009 with "Moon" in the Title!

Now normally I'd use this space to give some witty teaser as to what is in this week's episode, but THIS week I would like to express my extreme disappointment that Sam Rockwell did not receive a nomination for his work in this film. It's rare that we get to see a performer of this caliber carry a movie entirely on his or her own, and Rockwell certainly rises to the occasion. This man is LONG overdue for an Academy Award nomination (and can someone post a better picture of him up on IMDB...).

Now with that out of the, let's dig into the 2009 Science Fiction CLASSIC 'Moon'!

39 - Jeff Cannata Drops by with 'Melvin Goes to Dinner'!

    TOTALLY RAD!

Jeff Cannata was hugely supportive of our show in it's first few episodes (plus giving us our first big Twitter push). We couldn't think of a better way to thank him than to have him join us for a film he loves!

It just makes our job THAT much easier when he brings 'Melvin Goes to Dinner'. This indie sweetheart came out of the LA theater scene, and features an INCREDIBLE cast of leads and cameos. Bob Odenkirk has directed a comic and intimate look at strangers baring their souls.

It really is one of those films we're proud to discuss, as it's a shame more people haven't seen it.

We must extend MAJOR thanks to Jeff, not only for bringing this great film to our attention, but for all the support he's given us. You can catch Jeff every Tuesday as one of the hosts of The Totally Rad Show on Revision3.com, and you can also keep up with his other exploits on his personal (award winning) site JeffCannata.com.

38 - The Gun Kata Requires 'Equilibrium' and Balance

So we kinda ragged on Christian Bale in our review of Run Lola Run, so to make it up to him (because I'm sure he was very upset about it) we took a look through his catalog to find a movie to talk about.

We also realized that we'd yet to cover a guilty pleasure over the top action flick.

    Kismet.

This 2002 flick was the first in a series of films for Bale which would make him a bankable action star, and he doesn't even need to use his Batman voice! Let's take a look at 'Equilibrium'!
