Movies You May Have Missed Approved Movies for Halloween 2009!
Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 12:58PM Who loves scary movies?
WE LOVE SCARY MOVIES!
Case in point, in the six months our show has been on the web we've covered SIX horror flicks! That's one a month for you math-y folks!
So if you're going to a Halloween party this year, you have NO excuse not to be watching a scary good flick!
Here are your
"Movies You May Have Missed Approved™"
scary movies for Halloween 2009!
We'll start off with the most recent! For those of you looking for a good CLASSIC scare, with out the blood and gore of a modern day slasher or torture porn flick, check out our review of 1976's Richard Donner masterpiece 'The Omen'!
Next up, for those of you who DO want some blood and gore, check out our review of '[•REC]'. A Spanish "found footage" flick from 2007. It was later remade as 'Quarantine', but Juan prefers the original. Features guest host Yuri Lowenthal!
What's that? You say you want a little more comedy in your Halloween flick? Well look no further than 'Fido'! This 2006 satire takes a biting look at the 1950's cold war nuclear family, and replaces a boy and his dog with a boy and his zombie!
For those of you digging on a little more classic black and white vibe, might we recommend the original 1968 George Romero classic 'Night of the Living Dead'? It has the perfect dark, brooding, claustrophobic atmosphere to creep out your party guests with. Not to mention you can download a Blu Ray quality version of the flick FOR FREE!
Do you want to show your party guests a vampire movie, but just can't bring yourself to admit that you own a copy of 'Twilight'? Sweden has you covered with 2008's vampire flick 'Let The Right One In'! Quiet, atmospheric, and featuring old-school vamps (instead of these angsty romantic things we see today), 'Let The Right One In' also gets bonus points for making you look like a cultured, erudite, world-wise movie connoisseur!
And lastly, the big daddy of potentially missed Halloween movies 'Trick 'r Treat'! No movie before it has featured THIS much Halloween-ness! Michael Dougherty's horror/comedy anthology NEVER got a theatrical run, so you can ONLY catch it on DVD or Blu Ray. A shame really, as it comes with incredible pedigree (Bryon Singer produced, starring Anna Paquin, Bryan Cox, and Dylan Baker), and is a perfect movie for the season focusing on the myths and history of our favorite costumed holiday.
Well there you have it folks! Our reviews of scary movies for 2009!
We here at Movies You May Have Missed hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween!
We thought about ending with "Hope you have a ghoulishly good time", but decided against it...
